Spot painting a rust spot on a car with spray paint – Steps for a successful application:
1. Preparation
- Choose a suitable location for painting.
- Protect any areas you don’t want to paint to prevent overspray and other damage.
2. Application
- Sand the surface thoroughly to remove all rust and old, worn-out paint.
- Clean the surface with Maston Degreaser to remove grease and dust.
- Ensure the surface is completely dry.
- Apply several thin layers of Maston Etch Primer as a base.
- Carefully remove any excess paint with Maston Acetone.
- Apply the first coat lightly (a very thin mist coat) using Maston CarColor spray paint.
- Let each coat dry for 5 minutes before applying the next.
- Spray multiple thin layers to achieve a smooth, glossy finish.
- Note: Clear-coat metallic colors with a metal lacquer to achieve the correct shade and shine. Apply clear coat to solid colors as well to improve durability and enhance gloss.
- Coverage: Approx. 1.5m² (topcoat).
3. Drying Time
- Check the drying time for each type of paint in the manufacturer’s instructions or on the icons on the back of the bottle.
- CarColor drying times: Touch-dry in 30 minutes, fully dry in 24 hours.
4. Cleaning
- We recommend using Maston Acetone.
Tips for Best Results
- Always work in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling fumes.
- Test the paint on a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure compatibility.
- Take your time at each step to achieve a high-quality finish.
By following these instructions, you can restore the painted area to a like-new condition without major repairs. Applying a fresh coat of paint is a cost-effective and relatively easy way to revitalize a worn-out surface.
